Before the Big Move, we had to sieve through countless items, gave away some of them, threw away a lot more and get ready the others for shipment. I must admit that i was more a sentimentalist at heart than my wife.. she's the practical one and advised me against keeping those that would not serve us over in KSA.
Above picture shows how our holding area looks like in the living room. We converted the playpen area to 'hold' most of our ship-bound stuff .... it was hard work .. gotta thank wify and her 'gang' ... especially with little Abdul Matin playing this antics around the house.

Here are several pictures of the movers working on our stuff for the sea / air shipment.
My study desk being prepared ...
Counting the total number of boxes and tallying them
"Did i forget something?"
Abdul Matin decided to weigh himself ...

Hi Rainman,
Welcome in advance to KAUST. There are plenty of families with young children here, and I know many parents get together to have play-dates with the kids. So, let your wife know this will be OK! :) I also came later than my husband, and traveled by myself. I felt fine at the airport. I did not have an abaya yet, which caused some discomfort (just got lots of stares, even though I was very modestly dressed). So, if your wife has an abaya, she may feel more comfortable. My husband came to the airport with a driver, and things ran very smoothly. I've heard of other women coming with children without their husbands, and I haven't heard any horror stories yet! I don't know how much chicken costs (we're vegetarian), but local food here is not so expensive. It is the imported items that can be just as pricey as what we paid in New York! Anyway, good luck with the move! Life here is full of ups and downs, but as with everything, the experience is what you make of it. Being full of patience and having a sense of humor about things will help greatly. I wish I had someone to ask questions about living here... if your wife would like to email me, tell her she's welcome! sseldess@gmail.com. Take care!
